100TC:28: To Grow Up

Day 28 of the 100 Themes Challenge. Subject: "Sorrow."

Instead of doing some over-blown piece about death or something (again), I stopped and tried to think of the things that have actually made me cry. And really, the only thing that has really made me cry—the kind of cry you don't just get over—is loneliness. So, the narrator here is me. This is me. Kind of vulnerable, I guess, but there it is.

Maybe friends moving away isn't a big deal to some people, and I'm pathetic for turning into a wreck over it at 20 and 21, but it's been a pretty damn big deal to me. If you don't get it, you don't have to say anything.

The only thing I stretched, for poetic purposes, was the "Sixteen and can't wait to grow up" bit. At sixteen, I was already getting a premonition that growing up was going to suck. I've had Peter Pan syndrome for a long time. But I don't think I completely processed how far away my friends would go back then.
